As a cancer patient in treatment…

…you are in the right place and I’m happy to meet you.

I’m Kathy Giusti, a 30 year, two-time cancer survivor. I have worked in oncology for decades and know our healthcare system inside and out. You can find my story here.

I understand how it feels being in the thick of your cancer treatment. It’s busy. You don’t feel well. And you have so many decisions to make.

I wrote this article for patients like you. Katie Couric shared it in her newsletter, Wake-Up Call.

The article you read came from the steps I wrote specifically for cancer patients in treatment. Here they are.

Write them down, print them out, and share them with your loved ones.

Who treats you matters. Choose specialists who focus on your cancer and are connected to the latest research.

The right tests guide the right care. Ask about biomarkers, genomics, imaging, and immune profiling- anything that better defines your disease.

Understand your options. Know the standard of care but also follow medical meetings to see what is coming down the pike. Ask why a treatment is recommended and how it aligns with your goals.

Clinical trials can offer the most advanced care. Ask early if there’s one right for you.

If you want more information, my book “Fatal to Fearless: 12 Steps to Beating Cancer in a Broken Medical System” is super helpful-for you and for your loved ones. I wrote it with both the patient and caregiver in mind.
